To achieve a change in body shape or what is often called ‘toning’ requires two types of training. Basically, a lack of tone is the result of a lack of muscle mass and/ or too much fat. Therefore, a combination of weight training and cardio-vascular training is necessary to get the desired results. Firstly, the weight training will help increase your muscle mass and metabolism (although in the case of most women, it is not possible to increase muscle mass to a large degree) and secondly, the cardio-vascular exercise will help burn excess fat.
Nutrition will also play a large part. If you are eating more calories (or the same) than you are consuming, you are NOT going to improve your body shape or ‘tone’!
